Starry Night This Week

Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday March 8st, 2010. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.

The Moon Visits The Seven Sisters On The First Night Of Spring:
A Super Sight In Your Binoculars

On March 19th the Moon will be nearing the Pleiades. This view is from mid-northern latitudes an hour after sunset.

On the evening of the 20th the Moon will pass through the cluster. The red circle represents the field of view of 7x50 binoculars. If you have a pair of small general-purpose binoculars, that's probably what size they are, so you can get a great view.
