Starry Night This Week
Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer",
the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate
the show for the week of Monday January 26, 2009. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.
If Punxsutawney Phil Gets Up Before Sunrise On Groundhog Day What Will He See?
One hour before sunrise on February 2nd, if the sky is clear, you can see the stars of the summer sky rising in the east!
The Summer Triangle of Altair, Vega, and Deneb is accompanied by the familiar shape of Sagittarius in the southeast, and Scorpius further south. From here onwards they will rise earlier every night, becoming prominent in the evening sky by springtime.
