Starry Night This Week

Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday December 15, 2008. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.

The So-Called "Christmas Star" Returns
Accompanied By A Companion!

Northern hemisphere observers can look to the west during the evenings of the week surrounding December 25th to see Venus playing the part of a bright 'Christmas Star'.

(Yes, the story says that the star appeared in the east on Christmas morning -- but you'll have to wait until Christmas of 2010 to see Venus do that!)
