Starry Night This Week

Each week most PBS stations air "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer", the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The Starry Night images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday April 29, 2002. You can view the complete show script, or watch a RealPlayer video of the show.

The Great Planetary Gathering Continues And Becomes Even More Spectacular

Sunday May 5th just after sunset at dusk, facing west, where you will see a super tight huddle of 3 planets, one of the most intense bunchings of planets you'll ever see ... 3 planets forming a wonderful triangle. 8,000 mile wide Venus, 75,000 mile wide Saturn and 4,000 mile wide Mars. And if you have a pair of binoculars you will be absolutely astonished because they will all fit into the same field of view.

The dance of the planets from May 5th to May 15th.
