"There are few experiences as invigorating as being out in the countryside standing under a canopy of star on a still night. Starry Night conveys that feeling better than any other desktop planetarium"
--New York Times

StarGazer
Each week most PBS stations air Star Gazer with Jack Horkheimer, the world's first and only weekly TV series on naked-eye astronomy. The images on this page illustrate the show for the week of Monday, November 6, 2000.

The Leonid Meteor Shower and The Full Moon Visits Two Planets and A Star

Venus can be seen just after sunset in the southwest throughout November. Sharp-eyed observers will be able to pick it out to the upper left of the sun even before sunset.

The night of November 12 brings a wonderful collection of objects together in the constellation Taurus. The moon, Saturn, Jupiter, the Pleiades, and Aldebaran are all visible. Look east around 9 PM to see them all.

The Leonids meteor shower returns around 3AM on the mornings of November 17th and 18th . Look east at Leo to find the meteors. However, a nearby moon may make it too light to see many meteor streaks.
